Hi guys, this is my entry to the Musically Inspired Shirt Design Challenge.
Created in illustrator 100%, I've invested a solid 15+ hours into this thing, so i really hope y'all like it
This is definitely one of the best shirts I've ever designed, so I would LOVEEEE to have it go to print!
If you like it too and would like to see it printed, YOU can help make that happen, all you have to do is vote for me! So come July 6th, some back here and click the "I'd Wear This" button to cast me your vote! And if you REALLY want to see it printed, like I do, share this, give this link to your friends, have them share it too! Anyone with a DeviantArt account can vote, and the more Deviants that see it, the better!
Even if you don't vote for me, thanks for looking.
I'll tell you a little bit about what was going through my mind while making it, so you can gain a little insight to what I am trying to portray here:
As both a musician and visual artist myself, I wanted to bridge the gap between the two; show how they are, in reality, one and the same. Starting from the upper left on the front of the shirt, it begins as a normal musical staff, such as you'd see at the beginning of a piece. It quickly begins to break off and fall away, the falling symbols coming together to form a bird. This was my attempt at one of the themes of this contest: "Bringing music to life."
If you can't tell, the birds are made up entirely of musical symbols, like the ones you see falling from the musical staff. The head is a fermata, the beak a markato, and some slurs and a bass clef make up the body. A musical staff is the support for the symbols, is houses and holds them to be read by the musician. This staff itself branches out on one end to form, well, a branch, for which the birds to perch on, supporting them, and on the other end a pair of headphones, which is a medium through which the music that the symbols create is portrayed.
On the back, I wanted to portray even more the synonymity of the words "music" and "art," and how they are both an integral part of life. Life (The bird) is housed by music (The note), which is being created by art (The brush). The note and brush are one entity, and merge to create a form around the bird.
